I'm thinking that it would be best to create a route and post it the night before the ride in such a way to allow everyone to study and/or print it out before the ride. Maybe even print it out and have a few copies available at the beginning of the ride. I think part of the fun will be the adventure of discovering new terrain and ways to tackle it.
